Angry Plase help to repair my speaker cord ?

Dear guys,
My speaker cords turned old, just near the jack due to frequently turns and bends. I believe the inside wire there has broken. Before I used to just fit it in some positions randomly to use. But now it does'nt seem to work in any position. THe speaker is very right. I wanted to cut the wire and shorten the suspected diconnected part inside. But when I cut, I saw that there were two very thin wires and one naked wire on the top of both of them. Brutely I just cut and joined the two thin wire after cutting and then it still does not work. I don't know why ? I have cut and joined mouse wire and used. Do I need to take care in something while cuttiong and joining the speaker wire ????. My wires are getiing shorter. PLease help me to join the three wires if it can be, I would be very glad.
Yours sincerely,
Pranav Nandan

I believe that third wire is the ground..Try to hook up the naked wires back together.
OR just replace the cord..
