No new kernels today, just an update. Those of you who follow Linux kernel development may have noticed that 2.6.33 was released a few days ago, but it hasn't been packaged yet by HWF. There's a reason for that. There are some rather serious performance regressions in this build, so I'm holding off a few patch levels before building 2.6.33. Until that time, I'll keep building new kernels based on 2.6.31 and 2.6.32 as they're released.

    Kernel 2.6.30.5 available

At long last, we have 2.6.32.11 syncing to the server. This is a bugfix build with many scheduler-related fixes and more. As usual, it's recommended to upgrade if you're running a HWF kernel.

P.S. - Sorry for the delay, but between work and family I've barely had time for anything else. Depressing, but unfortunately not atypical of a volunteer project like this one. In regards to 2.6.33.x, I have started working on the baseline HWF configuration, but unfortunately there are some incompatibilities between the changes in that kernel and my build scripts so it's not just a matter of doing the initial configuration. I'll try to put some time into it in the near future.

    Thanks for your patience,
    -AT

Meh - Maaan, I am not sure what you are apologising for....
Personally I am grateful for any offering which may boost my PC's performance and for not having to roll my own architecture specific kernel.....:chk:

thanks again for all the hard work and dedication. It is massively appreciated.

    Kernel 2.6.32.23 available

    Hi All,

Thanks for building these kernels! I've installed the atom one and it works great apart from one issue. The power button is not shutting down the machine. I've some research and I've found ACPI "event" file is missing from /proc/acpi/ but the "button" file is present. Any suggestions on how to get this kernel to respond to the external power button?

    Thanks!
    Bill

    You're welcome. :)

Sorry to hear you're having issues. It works for me on my ATOM machines; pressing the power button triggers an immediate ACPI shutdown.

    • Was it working for you with the stock kernel?
    • What happens in dmesg after you push the button?
    • Is 'acpid' installed?

Thanks for your interest. I'm in the process of rewriting my build scripts to allow for a) 64-bit builds and b) newer kernel versions. Unfortunately I work full time in IT as a sysadmin -- I am essentially always on-call -- and have a young family as well, so time is not a luxury I possess in any great quantity. If you know of a good, scriptable build wrapper under an open license (or are willing to write one), I'd love to check it out. Otherwise the 64-bit builds won't be available until my build scripts have been revamped.
