    Hi

How do i write a CV or as the Americans call it resume (for some reason) anyways i just want to know how does one lay out a CV, there is a lot of info on the net but it's not very clear some say do it in a certain way others say different.

Also does work experience come first then education or the other way round????

    Thank You

I'm familiar with writing a resumé. I'll write an example, and post it here for your reference :)

I just made up a resumé of Bill Gates. In this example I wrote down personal information, then education, then work experience and then the drivers licenses.

Just a curious question; if one was applying to a job that is really far from home would it be advisable to say at the bottom of the CV willing to relocate????

You can put your skills at the Experience section. All other information about your self should be put in a separate letter that you include with your resumé.
Option + E, and then the e. (apple keyboard).

You only put personal information, education, experience, skills and drivers licenses on the resumé. All other information should be written in detail on a separate letter or discussed when you have a conversation with the contact person of the company.

Sorry but this is another stupid question

when putting the dates for your education and work experience do you put them in ascending order like the example you gave me or is it better to put the dates as descending?? that way the employer can quickly see your latest work experience or education, does that make sense???

Yeah I got a temporary job at a phone company.

The best way is ascending (like in the example). This way the employer can see how you have advanced (progress) in your education and work experience.

You could add if you have graduated for an education. Just add 'Graduated' next to each education.

    Home Phone:
    Mobile:
    Email Address:
    D.O.B

    Personal Profile:

I am confident and hardworking individual; I use my initiative in all aspects of work and solving problems. I’m a good listener with the ability to communicate both in writing and verbally with a variety of people. I am very keen to learn new skills and progress in life. (what you think)

    Key Skills:
Just put in bullet points my skills.

    Education
just listed the dates in ascending order and what i have achieved.

    Work experience
again just listed what i have done as work experience.

Additional Information (don't know if i should add this or what to call it)
I am punctual, reliable and work well under pressure, either as part of a team or alone. I’m straightforward and positive with a friendly disposition and a good sense of humour.

    That is good :)
But the stuff that you've put at Additional Information should be put under Personal Profile.

If you have any drivers licenses, put them at the bottom.

I think you're usually meant to write your work experience in reverse chronological order.

I'm a young guy, but I've worked a lot of jobs, and even hired others. From what I've experienced, I'd say it's most important to
    • be as concise as you can without selling yourself short, and
    • concentrate most heavily on the skill/traits/duties which align most closely with your career goals.
For example, if you're applying for a job as a PC Technician II, listing your part time job at a corner convenience store over the summer while you where in high school wouldn't really help much. On the other hand, working as an "Independent Technical Consultant", e.g. being hired to work on other people's PCs, and taking tech courses at the local community college would both be much more relevant.
