    Hey everyone,

About 6 months ago I bought a new 500gb internal hard drive for my laptop. For the last month of two it will just start beeping and clicking seemingly randomly when I'm using my computer. The computer locks up when it starts and goes back to normal immediately after. Other than that everything seems to be working fine.

Sometimes it's just one quick beep, other times it's multiple quick beeps and several clicks. Also, sometimes I can go all day and it will barely happen and other days (like today) it will happen every minute or so. Also, the beeps are coming directly from the hard drive. The laptop has no internal speaker, it comes directly from where the hard drive is installed and has happened even when I had no sound drivers.

So I was just wondering if anyone knew what could cause this. My first though was just that the drive was about to die, but it's been about two months now and nothing else has changed.

    Thanks for your help.

What kind of a click is it? Like more like a damaging click or uis it when your accessing files. (what are you doing at the time of the clicking? Does it do it when you are doing nothing?

Loud clicking (that is not accessing files) is usually a sign that the hdd is about to die.

It commonly happens when accessing files, but even when it is being left alone with no programs running it still does it frequently. The clicks range from quite to pretty loud, but it doesn't exactly sound damaging. It just sounds like the arm is moving around but is much louder than it should be.
