Can there be an 'incompatible CPU fan'?

    Hi all,
i am facing an interesting problem and i am not sure what happens.
I got a new CPU fan for my PC, installed it, and after boot the PC will shutdown by itself in about 30 seconds. The new fan works nicely and all seems OK, but the PC will shutdown. Putting back the old CPU fan fixes the problem, the PC works OK.
Is it possible that the CPU fan is somehow incompatible with the motherboard? I am sure that the new fan is compatible with my CPU and it fits perfectly on it (with no problem), yet the system keeps shutting down with it.
    Thank you
    Costas

What socket is your motherboard ? Did you replace the heat shield as well ?

Not sure of the socket name (it's like a i7). Yes, i replaced the heat shield. Strange issue is that the old fan worked immediately, no problem at all
