Do you mean you wish to monitor what they are doing on their computer? You could use parental control software for this purpose, but keep in mind that in most countries people usually have to give you permission to monitor them in the first place.

This is a tricky issue for employers, you have to be really careful doing this, since it opens you up to lawsuits. Also, read your employment contract, which may have some conditions concerning employee monitoring.

I've been using a free monitoring tool, which would fit your needs, too. The name of this free software is My Team Monitor and it is great for monitoring your employees' work on their computers with or without their knowledge - you can choose whether you want the basic version which is switched on and off by the employee, or the stealth version that runs without being noticed by your worker. You can sign up for the program at their website: www.myteammonitor.com There is a lot more information about it there, but the features I like most are: that it sends me screenshots of the staff's screens at regular intervals, it records the number of keystrokes and mouse clicks they make, and also when they were active, idle, or off work. It is also very easy to use, so I hope you'll like it!

The problem with monitoring employees in the legal sense can be combated by informing them before any installation that they may be monitored at anytime without their knowledge. After all, phone calls are done this way, so I don't see a good reason it wouldn't work on a PC. Any questions on specifics might be best left to a lawyer.

Additionally, it should be on company PCs only.

I think you don't have to ask an employee to monitor them. This is no different than my boss physically walking up to me and looking over my shoulder. He doesn't have to ask, and I would be surprised if he didn't check on my from time to time. You're being paid to work, not screw around. Now, this must be limited to work and company-own technology.

You could try Myjad keylogger. I know a few friends with kids use it to keep track of them on the internet. A lot of the time the knowledge that they're being monitored is enough to make them be more careful about what they do online, I suppose it would be the same with employees.
