Hello together, I'm new to the forum! I just had a quick question, I'm building a new pc and I'm planning on using the following components Mainboard: "Asus Rampage iv Extreme" CPU: "Intel Core i7-4930K Ivy Bridge-E" Originally I was going for the "Intel i7 4960X ivy Bridge", but I don't think the difference in benchmark result are that great, that I need spend almost twice as much for it. My question is just about the L3 cache (12MB on 4930K vs 15MB on 4960X), does those 3MB make that much of a difference, that it is worth spending the extra $500? RAM: I saw that both CPUs only supports DDR3-1333/1600/1866, therefore my question if it makes a difference if I buy memory that is DDR3 2400, or if that is basically just a waste of money, because the FSB of my memory is higher than what my CPU can provide? My questions summary is: 1) L3 cache importance (12MB on 4930K vs 15MB on 4960X), do those 3MB make that much of a difference performance wise, that it is worth spending the extra $500? 2) Both CPUs only supports DDR3-1333/1600/1866, therefore my question if it makes a difference if I buy memory that is DDR3 2400, or if that is basically just a waste of money, because the FSB of my memory is higher than what my CPU can provide? Thank you for helping me in this matter As I'm excited to get my parts on order and start throwing it together.....
1. No. That 500$ goes almost completly to waste. 2. Forget FSB bacause there isn't FSB anymore. DDR3-1866 memory is enough, just make sure it's 1.5V. Personally I don't recommend either of those processors because motherboard platform is obsolete.
