Clumsy old fool that I am and getting worse, I have broken off the plastic surround to the power connection on my WD Black SATA Desktop Harddrive. I note there is another socket with 8 pins which I believe used to be used for power on older drives. I attach a pic of the drive. Is there hope of recovering the data on this drive without resorting to a specialist? Any suggestions? Thanks Swanny
That 8 pin is for jumpers and is probably unused. You perhaps can attach power cable to pins, at least all pins are in place. Just bent those pins straight first.
OK thanks for clearing that up. In any event I purchased an Inateck external hard drive enclosure. Fortunately the drive pushes onto the connections and is supported by the tray and screwed into place. I was concerned that there might be too much flex in the pins to make a good connection without the adjacent plastic surround but my fears were groundless so far at least. Currently backing up the hundreds of holiday photos my wife took on our recent holiday to my NAS which may help put her in a better mood than when she heard what had happened. Thanks for the response. Regards Swanny
