I am very confused :x: I just got a hand-me down computer for college, and tried to set it up to see what we had. It is an Emachine 533id2, so its not the newest. It says that is was made for windows 98 second edition. The problem I am having is that when I go to turn on the computer both the computer and the moniter turn on, but nothing happens I simply have a blank screen. We believe that the people who owned the computer before us scratched the hard-drive, so we tried to reinstall windows 98 second edition, but still nothing is happening. The monitor has been checked and does work. Is there anything anyone can tell me to help me get this computer working? THANKS!!!
Is the graphics card wedged in properly? Sometimes my moniter does this and I have to open the case and proper push the the card in to make it work!
Can they confirm that it functioned properly before they handed it over to you? Are you getting any beeping at all? Matt's got a good point there with the graphic card, I had my wedged in the AGP slot but I forgot to attach the molex connector so I wasn't getting any post screen untill I remembered that.
I tried both of those, and it still isnt working...yeah they said it worked, and no I am not getting any beeping...any more suggestions? Thanks for the help so far!
If you have another graphics card to test in it, I would give that a shot. Also, you may want to see if the RAM is seated properly just for the heck of it. Also, I'd imagine that it was transported from one place to another so really, most anything could be a little out of place. Try looking around to see if anything may not be in there all the way - power cables included.
Stupid question, but figured worth asking. Is the monitor plugged in properly? Is it tight enough? Sometimes my monitor on a Win 98 SE computer goes blank. I have no clue why, but this works for me. I turn of the computer, switch the wattage on the PS, and try to turn it back on. That usually doesn't work, so I swith the wattage back again, then turn it on again, and volia! it works. Might me worth a try! Won't hurt.
It doesn't seem to work now for one reason or an other but the idea is not to advertise like that, so no "free iPod", "free PSP", and "free PC" stuff okay? If you want to affiliate with us that's one thing and feel free to contact an administrator about that but try not to advertise in links like that. Bargins go in the bargin zone if you do come across a legitimate good deal.
lol you fools you all fell for that, good trick ahem,*regains prestigious title of moderator* This is unnecessary spam of a thread. Either answer the question at hand, or don't post. Thank You.
