I would like to know if there is a way I can set up my Dell Inspiron 3800 notebook to close the lid and prevent standby mode when connected to external monitor and keyboard. If I switch to the external monitor using fn f8 key and close the lid, I loose the video on external monitor and pc enters standby or sleep mode. I have configured the power mode for monitor to stay on in the control panel. I am not using a port replicator, just connecting to the video and keyboard ports on the notebook.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Tom

Just to verify, in Control Panel, you went to Power Options,
and Under Power Schemes, you selected Portable/Laptop.
On next steps, there should be an option for when the laptop lid is closed.
