Default power supply

ok, well i was on my computer, and then i heard this sort of sparking sound and then the computer turned off, and tried to turn it on again but there was no look, could the power supply have died, if so, when it blew up or somthing, it wont have fried all my motherboard would it?

Agreed. Although the quality of the PSU has a big factor. A lousy PSU is likely to take out more hardware, or have a larger chance of taking out other stuff, than a high quality one.

Note that high quality PSU's don't die out easily, so that could be the cause.
