Tagan has been move to the avoid list. While I've heard smatterings of complaints for awhile, I ran across this and this, leading me to believe that Tagan is no longer a company that is to be recommended at this time. Hopefully they will get their act together, but for now, they're a company to stay away from, especially given their attitude and inability to refute scientific evidence.

I've also seen complaint over at Hot Hardware's forums.

I put forward the following recommendation based on personal experience:

Hiper be removed from recommended..

Last year I purchased an Hiper 350W PSU to match up an old Northwood P4 HT system. The PSU lasted less than a year, it started squeaking and would no longer power up my PC. It was eventually replaced with a decent Seasonic PSU and my PC once again worked... I don't think I need to say anything further..

Yeah, Hiper and Fortron have been moved out of the recommended list. Fortron/FSP seems to have some duds as of late in the review world (of the good reviews), so they're being moved to the avoid list. While they're not on the likes of Powmax, the quality has gone downhill.

I've been using primarily Seasonic these days, as they've moved to solid caps. So far, not a single problem. Also have a few systems with Enermax, also rock-solid.

After troubleshooting, I've ended up with a Corsair HX520 in the main box, and I believe that's the Seasonic-based line. I've got a Topower-based OCZ unit in my pseudo-HTPC. I do have an FSP in my wife's box, but it was a PN-series, and made before the current stream of problems.

I'm pretty sure modular PSU's will be something I'll look for in the future because it's so nice.

I want to just add something. i just had an OCZ unit fail for no real reason, but it was a 2 years old. Anyways, their RMA set-up is vveerryyy odd. Actually, before i get into that, i just had a coolmax unit fail, a couple days after my OCZ unit, and their RMA process is really nice, you don't even have to send them the broken unit back, and it was a 3 year warranty. Anyways, OCZ has these trouble ticket things, every time you want to get a hold of them, you HAVE to make a trouble ticket, fill out a form every time, and reference back to whatever your dealing with. It basically makes it impossible to keep track of anything, and makes the whole process REALLY confusing. On a final note, they didn't send me back the same unit that i purchased, nor did they let me know they weren't, wouldn't have been a problem, but i have a P180 case, so i need a threw fan design, not one that pulls air in from the top/bottom of the PSU. Now they are not responding back to me.... Sweeett.
