Default Price drop?

With the new i7 processors coming out in october, can anyone give a good estimate of how much the existing core 2 duos will drop, if they will drop at all. As I am thinking of buying either a Q9550 or a Q9650, but need to now if it's worth waiting for a couple of months to get a better price.

yes it will drop quite a lot but i cant give you a idea of how much, it depends on the market if people are ready to switch to the new chips because they then have to buy a new X58 mobo that only takes DDR3 so people have to buy a lot to get Intel's new chip so i'm wondering if it will be a slow take off in that case the C2D will not drop much, if people buy the new nehlam then the C2D will drop quite a lot so i guess its a waiting game see what happens.

Another thought: I want to get a processor that I won't need to upgrade again in the next couple of years. Would I be better going for e8600 or Q9550/9650?

I want to be able to play new computer games, and I do a bit of video transcoding to my 360 and burning to dvds.

Get a Q9450 or if you have the dosh you could wait and get Intel's new flagship chip the Nehalem aka Core i7 but that's obviously going to be a bit pricey so depends on your budget really.
