Ok I got the game today and installed it fine but when I run it I drop to desktop after about 5 seconds of the usual black screen you get as the games starts. I get a console screen which shows all the things that were initialized when the game was executed and in it I get the following (Don't undestand it myself
):_____________________ Initializing OpenGL subsystem ...initializing QGL ...calling LoadLibrary( 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\opengl32.dll' ): succeeded ...setting mode 3: 640 480 FS ...using desktop display depth of 16 ...calling CDS: ok ...registered window class ...created window@0,0 (640x480) Initializing OpenGL driver ...getting DC: succeeded ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT ...restoring display settings ...WARNING: could not set the given mode (3) ...setting mode 3: 640 480 FS ...using colorsbits of 16 ...calling CDS: ok ...created window@0,0 (640x480) Initializing OpenGL driver ...getting DC: succeeded ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...GLW_ChoosePFD( 16, 16, 0 ) ...35 PFDs found ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed ...failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT ...restoring display settings ...WARNING: could not set the given mode (3) ...shutting down QGL ...unloading OpenGL DLL ...assuming '3dfxvgl' is a standalone driver ...initializing QGL ...WARNING: missing Glide installation, assuming no 3Dfx available ...shutting down QGL ----- CL_Shutdown ----- RE_Shutdown( 1 ) ----------------------- GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem ______________________ Not sure if that lot makes any sense to anyone but anyway.....RtCW needs to run using OpenGL apparently and I'm sure I'm running with D3D. Is there a way to switch to OpenGL? Or should this be dealt with automatically by my comp? This is what I'm running it on: Windows XP Pro AMD Duron 900 15.2 Gb HDD 448 Mb SDRAM Geforce 2 MX 400 64Mb (Not sure what the mother board is) This happened to me a few years ago when I got Quake 3 but I had a different computer then and can't remember how I resolved it. I'm using the latest drivers for my graphics card and latest version of DirectX (8a I think), also I've re-installed the game once. I can't even get to the game menu to change any video options. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thnx in advance. |

Check out the GLSetup homepage it should provide you with the utility to ensure OpenGL is installed.
Also what drivers are you using for the MX? If your not already I'd suggest going to NVIDIA's site and downloading the latest drivers as the 23.xx have improved opengl support. |

I also had this prob with RTCW when I used the default Nvidia driver in XP Pro.
SynGod could correct me here, but I believe this is down to Microsoft discontinuing support for OpenGL, as all the video card drivers they have available on XP don't have any GL support at all.....you have to go to the manufacturers download site for an upgrade, I know this also affects all ATI cards drivers on XP for certain too. Damn you Microsoft! :p Last edited by SETEO; 03-01-2002 at 11:37 AM. |

Hehe who runs the old outdated drivers Microsoft provides anyways
.I'm not sure if that is actually the problem or not but since each manufacturer updates their drivers a lot quicker than MS posts them I'd just advise sticking with the manufacturers drivers unless it's from a company like Asus and the drivers seem to be stalled at like 6.53 or something like that. Apart from that if you have trouble GLSetup should install the latest appropriate opengl drivers for your card. |
