My Computer

Default problems with Ubuntu install

i am trying to install Ubuntu on my existing Kubuntu HDD, but, i received an unexpected error, free space unusable (61120Mb)

i personally don't know why this error occurred, because, i only have 1 primary partition & an extended partition containing everything else (obviously excluding /boot)

please help if you can (again)

BTW: i'm currently on Ubuntu liveCD, and obviously posting a screenshot didn't work successfully, so, i'll try to describe the situation

i created a / (size: 2048Gb) partition and creation of further partition is not possible,

my partitions:
  • hda1 = /boot - 98Mb - the only primary partition (my original Kubuntu Gutsy)
  • hda5 = kbun / - 17125Mb
  • hda6 = /home (kbun) - 10478Mb
  • hda7 = /vm - 31453Mb - all my vm's
  • hda8 = /spr - 31453Mb - basically i put it in there if i don't know what else to do with it
this is on a 160Gb HDD

Well, I've never personally seen this problem, but I did find another thread (not here) where a ubuntu user has the same problem.

On another website, the problem with kubuntu turned out to be (and I'm guessing that this is yours):

It seems that all my partitions were set as primary and the hard drive (or the OS) can not support more than 4 primary partitions (3 + the EISA partition). I just converted 2 of them to logical partitions and now everything works great.

Ah, well I'll admit that I'm left clueless. I mean, you could always remove EVERYTHING and start over, but I dont think that's what you want to do and neither is it the proper solution. I will keep looking around to see if I can help you more successfully, but in the mean time maybe if we're lucky someone like AT will stop by.
