Default PSU and UPS woes.

Hello,

recently I put together a pc that I am going to be using for gaming from older parts and some new ones I bought, like the 9800gtx video card. For that reason I thought it might be a good idea to upgrade my old 550W Tagan PSU with a new 700W one (Tagan as well).

What I've noticed though is that the UPS I am using says that it has an output of 360W. I've used that UPS because in my country (Greece) electricity cuts are common because of thunder storms (especially in this season) and I was worried about hardware malfunctions.

What I would like to ask is that the 360W that the UPS is capable of refers to the output in case of an electricity cut, or is it in general the normal output 24/7 that will effectively gimp my 700W PSU that is connected to it.

Thank you very much.

EDIT: TAGAN TG700-U26 700W I-XEYE II that's the new psu I got.

firstly a 700W PSU doesn't output 700W of power all the time, 700W is the maximum power your PSU can provide, whereas your UPS is usually only to provide enough power to keep the system powered up, so, unless you use the full output of your PSU you dont need a 700W UPS, however, matching the 2 wattages would be a good idea because you can then upgrade without having to upgrade your UPS, obviously, provided you UPS is sufficient to power your system

Edit: you may have being better to remain with your old 550W tagan because new tagan PSUs are no longer recommended by HWF

For clarification, Tagan is no longer being recommended because of their attitude toward negative reviews. This [H]ard|OCP review is one they got snippy over. Instead of attempting to rectify it, a company representative had a fit, and the company didn't appear to correct him.

The impression is that Tagan (the builder of this ABS PSU) isn't concerned with a quality product. A company that cops that sort of attitude will not be recommended because it's appears they're more concerned with looking good than providing a quality product.

Thank you for the responses.

I took away the UPS, I am not going to be using it anymore because of its low output, and I took your advice and opted for a 650W Corsair PSU. Everything seems to be working great now, and the 9800GTX is a beast, although the pc is much noiser now than before lol, can't have it all I guess

Thanks again.

have you considered the possibility of using a better noise insulating case ?

Well, when a company comes out with a baseless claim that a website is paid for a good review, you have to wonder. Additionally, PC Perspective reviewed the same unit, and came to the same conclusion [H]ard|OCP did.

Stuff happens, but it's about how the company deals with it. I did notice that the guy on Tagan's forums that issued the comments is banned, so I don't know if they canned the guy or what. Hopefully, Tagan will bounce back, but for now the attitude and some concerns about their product quality leave them on the list to avoid.
