Im curruntly looking to upgrade a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 card for a barebones PC.
I contacted the maker (shuttle) and asked them if it was wise to install a 9800 pro in the machine. They wrote back very quickly (nice service ) and said that a 9800 pro might be pushing it. They also recomended that i use a 9600XT 256mb.I was wondering how good 9600XT's are compared to a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 and a 9800 pro. My guess is that its much better than the Ti but just under the 9800pro. Thats just a guess mind you. ![]() |

You'd be going to at least the performance of a GF Ti4600, but with native DirectX 9 support. It's not just a little under the 9800 Pro, and there is a performance gap between them.
If you want the faster video card, you might see about getting a little meatier power supply from Shuttle for it if possible. I know they exist, but I don't know if they're available for the one you're looking to upgrade. |
