Default Recepies of Necessity

Ever been in a situation where you're dying for some nourishment but you were too poor, too far away, or are just plain unable to get typical food from the typical sources? When you're in a pinch like that, you'll try just about anything which promises a quick boost of energy and a slight break from the angry growling of your stomach. Here's a couple of tried & true recipes of necessity to get things started off:

Quote:
Oakie Sandwich
This is a great recipe for road trips, when you're far away from everything but gas stations. They typically have both necessary ingredients for this simple recipe, and you can even “eat” this one while driving.

Ingredients:
One bottle of CocaCola brand soda; any size OK
One package of roasted peanuts; salted, glazed, and cocktail variants all OK

Directions:
First, drink the Coke in proportion to the amount of peanuts which you have procured. Next, add the peanuts slowly to the Coke, using your hand as a funnel. Recap the soda, and shake violently for several seconds. Let the pressure subside for a few minutes. After it's safe to open the cola, you'll notice the peanuts have all or mostly all dissolved(!). Drink the mixture, which tastes like a slightly saltier, creamier Coke. Not too terrible, and it's good for a few hours worth of cheap energy.
Quote:
A-1 Toast
Even if you're really poor, you're likely to have or be able to easily obtain the ingredients for this little lifesaver.

Ingredients:
A-1 Steak Sauce – available in any cheap dive of a restaurant, or often found in the back of the fridge
Bread, sliced and toasted; any variety OK

Directions:
Pretty straight-forward. Just pour a little steak sauce onto one of your pieces of toast, and rub it onto the other as evenly as possible. Not the best thing in the world, but it's got salt, sugar, and carbs. Enough to keep you going!

'oakie sandwich' sounds pretty good. I love coke and I love peanuts! A-1 toast sounds quite odd but I guess it'll get you through a day

Cake Bread

Discovered by me and a friend whilst waiting for a pizza to cook.

Take a piece of bread (white ideally).

Sprinkle large amounts of sugar over the bread, or to taste.

Fold the bread in half.

Eat.

Tastes just like cake. In bread.

A very old one similar to that excep:
When you put the sugar on, add a bit of tea without milk and eat.

You're missing the point. It's not necessarily that you want to eat like that, It's that you try something unlikely just to get something in your stomach, and it turns out to be better than expected.

Another old one:

Quote:
Prison Spread
This one's not actually as bad as it sounds. Pretty common meal in US prisons from what I've heard, since inmates typically have no way of cooking their noodles.

Ingredients:
Bread, two slices. Any type you can get your hands on OK
Top Ramen (or equivilent), one package with seasoning packet
Condiments, any available

Directions
We're basically making a sandwich here. Just spread your condiments onto your bread, add the uncooked brick of ramen noodles, and sprinkle the seasoning packet over it. Close your finished sandwich, and [attempt to] enjoy!

How could you eat that?!!!
If its anything like supernoodles, its going to be VERY dry. I like the coke and peanuts on better.
