My Computer

Default Rise in CPU temperature.

My new processor and motherboard appear to be working fine. However, up to only yesterday, my processor temp was hovering around 40 - 42c on idle (I only have stock cooling, but was happy with those temps).

Today, I noticed the temperature has shot up to 50c on idle. There is no appreciable difference in ambient temperature between yesterday and today, and I have not added any additional hardware that might up the temperature.

I've just taken the processor out, cleaned off the old thermal paste and applied new paste, but the CPU temperature is still 50c on idle.

Any ideas on this one, guys?

Thanks,

David.

i wouldn't worry about it, start worrying if it gets over 60c, then buy a better cooler

What are you using to monitor the temps?

SpeedFan and the hardware monitor in the BIOS (which both gave the same readings).

However, I've clean off the thermal paste for the second time now, and I'm getting 40-42c again, so I guess all is well now. Thanks for your interest.
