We have to use a 9 Pin RS232 connection for some of the work we do with our laptops. The older laptops are equiped with this port, but the new ones require a usb to rs232 adapter. However, this is a VERY SLOW connection. Would it be better to use a PCMCIA card to connect with? I have also read some reviews of some of the cards I have looked at and discovered a lot of them run the same as a usb conversion. Could anyone please suggest a faster alternative? Thanks in advance for all your help.

there is no fast RS232 connection. windows limits it speed to 115200 (i think) bps, which is slower than USB 1.1 (hence the reason USB1.1 and RS232 are being phased out commercially)
i have a usb to RS232, and it works ok, although i have found apps that can tell its not real RS232, and refuse to work, but it could also be a issue with Vista or the drivers i was using. |
