Default Screen randomly goes blank

Afternoon ladies, I have a big problem. At random times while the computer is on, my screen goes faint. You can barely see anything, and i mean barely. Theres no backlight coming from the monitor at all. I have up to date drivers and all and I have tried reinstalling multiple times.

Running XP, 2.93Gghz with 1gb ram with a Gigabyte 8500GT. Theres a PCI slot fan blower sitting right beneath the card, which keeps it at 45C so I dont think overheating is an issue. CPU is running at 42C idle.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Its getting quite annoying now, turning blank every 2 minutes or so.

Oh and I have to turn the monitor off and on to see anything on the screen. Turning it back on solves the problem for about 2 minutes as i said above ^^

Thanks in advance

My Computer

Try using a different monitor with your computer and use your monitor with a different computer (to be sure of the problem).

If your computer behaves with a different monitor and the other computer has the same problem with your monitor, then unfortunately its your monitor thats the problem (and you probably won't be able to do anything about it).

If changing your monitor does not make a difference and your monitor works fine with the other computer then the problem is with your computer (and you might be able to fix it without spending anything).
