Default So Sound, Grrrrr!

Yo, I've had to format, but don't have the sound driver for my pc. It's an hp a1020a, using the Realtek sp26552. I've tried using the driver update from hp, but during installation it comes up with an error message saying:

Update failed to install succesfully.

Now is this because I need the original driver before the update? Cause I can't even find that, just the update. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I got the update from HP, and it still won't install. And at HP they only have the driver update. I've downloaded it from HP but it just won't install. I'm admin and everything, it just fails to install. And I don't have any original driver cd's because it didn't come with any (stupid me bought it from Myer not HP).

My Computer

Is this an old machine with windows Vista on it??

Also try through Microsoft...Open Internet Explorer, go to tools > windows Update...Select Custom Updates...You will find drivers for the hardwares over there...check n see if Audio drivers are available..If yest then select it and let automatic updates install em for you by themselves...

When I try to install the realtek codec it says I need atleast windows xp service pack 1. I already have service pack 6, wouldn't that count as 1 aswell? And if not, I tried download SP1 but it just freezes in the download. Could be just a backed up server though, cause it download really slow. I'll try downloading at another time.

Well I downloaded a service pack and it said it was SP6. It was probably not for xp. I'll go get the service pack.

Right click on my Computer, then choose Properties, this show what Service
pack you have. If you have any. Also download a program called everest or belarc, these are hardware
identifiers.. This should make easier to find the right sound card drivers. Also there only 2 services packs.

Everythings kinda sorted now. I'll need to get a legal copy of windows so it can be verified, then I can get the service packs and that should fix it all up. Thanks for the help peoples
