Play.com are taking pre-orders for the Playstation 3. Seems a little early if you ask me epecially considering they can't guarantee delivery before Christmas. The PS3 will set you back £550 ($1,020)

Yes, I've ordered Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo HD from play.com
![]() And Pro Evolution Soccer, when it comes out, they are the only games I really want, others I will try the demos first.

If your ordering the PS3 for a Blu-Ray player I'd hold off until it's guaranteed HDMI 1.3 IC's are available, otherwise your not going to be able to take advantage of the new sound formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.
Silicon Image isn't planning on having their IC's out until this fall so the best bet may be to wait until the 2nd generation before buying a PS3, as I'm thinking Sony isn't going to be able to integrate HDMI 1.3 into the PS3 at launch since they can't even get it integrated into their standalone players that will launch in Oct. |

You only pay once they ship the item/s. I didn't order because of the BD player, but it would be an advantage to have though.
I think it would be an advantage if sony do, as it could help decide the war between HD-DVD and Blue Ray.

Maybe it's because I am not into gaming as much as I was, but £450+ for a games console sounds a little too steap to me

Check this out: PlayStation 3 to use HDMI 1.3 :: PS3 News :: PS3Land.com Anyway the $1000 bundle is a pretty junky deal, you just get the 60gig SKU, 1 controller and F1 Racing, WarHawk, and Singstar. Nothing too special there. I'd wait untill after launch, down the road when the price comes down, the 1st party and big deal titles like MGS4 and Killzone 2 launch and the availability is up. Hopefully by then we'll know if BlueRay is edging out in the format war.

Yeah I saw a few articles about the PS3 supposed to be launching with HDMI 1.3 but I'm really skeptical. Sony promised a hell of alot for the Blu-Ray launch and I have to say Sony has a ton of catching up to do if they want to stay in the game with toshiba.
I have both an the Toshiba XA1 and the Samsung 1000 BR player and I'm really disappointed with the BR offering. The picture quality is soft compared to HD-DVD, none of the discs are shipping with any of the new sound formats, and the promised 50GB dual layer discs are nowhere to be seen I wouldn't be holding my breath on any of Sony's promises right now. Sony isn't able to get HDMI IC's into their standalone units that are launching in October so I don't see how they are going to be able to have the IC ready for launch less than a month later. |

Yeah I here you but Sony is really counting on BR being a big selling point with the PS3. More so than just the standalone players even. They want people to see that the console is more than an expensive game machine and get anyone enticed in buying it anyway they can.
They can kill two birds with one stone if enough buy the PS3 right off and by launching with HDMI 1.3 the advantage grows furthur. But you know more about this stuff than I so as far as how reasonable this is I can't really say. As far as the soft image goes that's kind of weird. What kind of TV do you have? If it can't display fully 1080p than you're probably having some scaling issues. What res are HD DVD movies though?
