My Computer

Default Sound problem

I am working on a Dell™ Dimension™ 2400 Series for a friend, and the on board sound card does not work.

I have tried three different PCI sound cards, but
I can not get the computer to recognize anything other than the on board sound. Does the PCI sound card need to be from Dell?

I have acquired the computers manual....on line....and their is no jumper that will disable the on board card.

On board sound is usually disabled through BIOS.
Make you follow the sound card's installation instructions to the T
because some of them have very weird ways of doing things.

My Computer

Thanks pelvis_3

I have been to the BIOS and disabled it (I don't know how many times) On reboot No cigar.

I have installed many PCI sound cards on other machines without any problems.

Is the PCI slots turn on in the bios ?How many pci slots does it have ? does any of the slots work ?make sure you go into device manage and remove all traces of any sound devices then reboot. Also get tweakui and check under General, now make sure that you have a check mark in beep on errors...
