System is a Dell GX280 OPtiplex tower.
80 GB Boot drive
1 TB storage drive
2 X 500GB storage drives
Had to mod the case to replace the proprietery Dell PSU as it wouldn't power the drives.
OS Windows Home Server. So this is a critical system for my home network.
CoolerMaster 500 died and they sent me a replacement 550. In the meantime I was using a Thermaltake 500 borrowed from my son. System worked fine. Pulled the Thermaltake 500 and installed the replacement Coolermaster 550. System does not boot and sounds like it is going to take off. Put the Thermaltake 500 back in and got the same result. Seems something is no longer working and the CPU is over heating and causing the Heatsink Fan to rpm up to try and cool it down.
Anybody have any ideas? Again, this system was working an hour ago, quietly sitting in it's corner doing it's job.
Hmm. I have done some more google research and it appears this is a common problem with this model. Guess I will switch to a generic box. Since it is a socket 775 CPU, I might be able to build me another WHS box with some spare parts I happen to have. Wish me luck.
