I'd check for the usual culprits in Windows:
In fact, it may be best for you to just do a fresh install and start from scratch. Patch and install latest drivers, defrag (very necessary on NTFS filesystems), and remove or disable any unused software. I'll leave this exercise to your descretion, but it's the best way to get a clean slate in terms of OS-level troubleshooting. On the hardware level, you can check RAM and bus timings, clock speeds, voltage, and heat dissipation. Also make sure that the HDD's running well, since Windows likes to swap... a lot ... no matter how much RAM you have. If you have a slow / damaged HDD, your Windows system will be slow.

I would do everything mentioned above; I would download a program called CCleaner. I would use the uninstaller from that program to remove unused programs from your computer, also Use the registry cleaner on it.. I use it once every month. If nothing else, it keeps your registry somewhat clean.
Another thing I would check is to make sure you have the newest drivers for your 8800 -- You also might want to try Omega Drivers - They are drivers more geared to gaming rather then the standard generic drivers. I personally use them on my system I find that they make the game run smoother and I gain a few FPS. Don't forget to uninstall your old drivers before installing these. Also, depending on how old your XP version is, It might be best to format - I dont know how your setup is but I personally have all my games and personal documents on one SATA drive and XP on another, so when I need to format, I dont have to reinstall everything. Also, Do you play any other games and does it lag in that game also? Last edited by Kastang; 13-06-2007 at 02:02 AM. |

Wow, thanks you two... I really do appreciate it.... The thing is, my source runs fine, but when I record a demo it drops my fps up to 35, while my friend with the lower specs drops his 10-15, and has an average higher fps than me. Thanks for links.

Threads merged. For everyone's benefit, including your own, don't make a new thread several places on the exact same subject. One is plenty, and if a mod or admin feels it will work better elsewhere, we'll move it. Thanks!
Now back to your thread. |

Well, that's enough to make a pretty big difference right there. Try it at the same resolutions and see what your results look like then.
