sabashuali Suggested having a thread like this to help people with problems that should be solved by starting off with your computer in 'Barebones'
Barebones refers to minimal components required to get your computer running, the bare essentials. To start in barebones (to check things like Motherboard, RAM, Graphis and CPU) take your components out of your case and assemble on a non-conductive surface, then put just your CPU (with heatsink and Fan), RAM and Graphics card into your Motherboard along with your PSU (for power...) and then short out the power pins on your motherboard using a flat headed screwdriver to start it up. This is the way to start off problem solving hardware, if something doesn't work (you may not know what) then substitute something else in (a known working piece) if it still doesn't work then substitute something else in, this will then help you to find the damaged part, if after all this you still can't find what's wrong then it may be your motherboard. When you get it working then start adding other things, FDD, HDD, Optical drives etc.

For the noob, I would first start still in the case.
Just put in the G card, CPU (with h/s+fan) and power up into BIOS, paying attentions to the POST beeps (or lack of them...). I think that's the quickest way to 'catch' bad/non compatable RAM. Please correct me if I am wrong...this is only based on a few incidents I had with bad RAM and that is how I found out about it. I did however had two or three stick to play around with.... |
