Red face Steam is being difficult...

Ugh, I wish Value didn't give me so many problems. I go to play CS:S and when I double chick I get absolutly nothing, no hourglass, zip. So I assume it's just some weird error and it's happened before so I try again, nothing, etc. So I just go on a clicking frenzy out of frustration, still nothing. Fine, I'll play HL2, and then I get this!:
The thing is HL2 has worked fine in offline mode for a long time now and my account was just fine, in good standing, etc. So what happened and how do I fix it?! At first I assumed that it was just steam being temporarily weird or the server was down for a bit but this has been like this for 2 days. Any though? Thanks.

it could be your network settings in steam. Also it may not even let you attempt to run CS:Source under dialup.

Aww, thanks guys, for some unexplicable reason it sorted itself out and just let me log in *scratches head*. You know I was thinking that about CS:S but I have a friend who gets about 40k and plays competitivly on the same game believe it or not. It was frustrating though because it wouldn't even let me into steam to change any settings, its said it was already running even though it wasn't:/ Appreciate the help for future reference though

there are various tweaks that can help w/ 56k.

one of these (which i can only assume to be a joke), was to use a SLI config of two 56k modems...w00t

try adjusting your rates a little, i'll see if i can find a guide.

theres always bots!!

Haha! That's quality right there, I can't imagine it working but I guess you can always try. I've already maxed the rates as far as I know but I don't think you can push 56k too far really, I'll go try it again and see what happens...

I've heard something about bridging two 56k's...though you need 2 phone lines, 2 accounts to log into I'd assume.

and to think 14.4k modems used to be something to shake a stick at.
