Default text in Photoshop

I have a question regarding text in Photoshop. I'm using version 6 and I would like to produce text that is "hollow." That is to say, that it isn't filled in with a color, only an outline of the letters would be visible. I would also like to be able to vary the thickness of the outline, if possible. If this is possible, then is it also possible to place other images behind the text and still be able to see them through the hollow text?

thanks

My Computer

I'm not sure if it's available in version 6 but here's what I would do (I've used Photoshop from CS onwards)

1. Create the text and use black as the colour.
2. Go to Layer -> Layer Style -> Blending Options.
3. On the first section that appears select "Screen" as the layer blending mode.
3. Go to the "Stroke" section (located at the bottom left of the window that appears) and then choose the stroke size, colour and whether you want it to be inside, outside or center - for sharp edges use inside.

From there you can adjust the colour of the outline (stroke) and the size as well.

Hope that helped, sorry if you can't do it as I've not used PS 6 before.
