Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my HP laptop and for my RAM usage on the "Computer Properties" page it says "Installed memory (RAM): 4.00GB (2.99GB usable)" I've seen other laptops with Windows 7 64-bit and all 4GB of RAM are usable so I know it's possible. BIOS says I have 4GB of RAM. CCleaner sees 4GB of RAM So I know 4GB of RAM are installed. Check out the images of "Computer Properties", "TaskManager" and "MSConfig". Anyone have ANY ideas? Google search has yielded nothing but a lot of bad/wrong information. Thanks.
Is it this one? HP Pavilion dv6000 (Core 2 Duo) Specs, Laptop Reviews on CNET UK Have you upgraded the memory yourself or did it come with that configuration?
It's an HP Pavilion dv6200 CTO Notebook PC. Here's the link for the exact model: HP Pavilion dv6200 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
ok, your laptop is confusing. HP says 2-4 in Win7 (or more in 64bit) but this doesn't apply to your model. according to crucial (host information on all major hardware's ram capacity and specs) with your model number, you can only have 2Gb of ram (according to manufactures specs). Computer memory upgrades for HP - Compaq Pavilion dv6200 CTO Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com your's says it has 3 though. it appears that your computer's hardware cannot use all 4GB of ram. Did you get an official ram upgrade from hp?
"Official ram upgrade"? By that I guess you mean did I send my computer to HP to upgrade the RAM? I did not. I bought and installed the RAM myself. They are 2 (2GB) Kingston RAM chips. They are both the same and they are Kingston KTH-ZD8000B/2G. You can see the specs here: http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/con...root=&LinkBack=&ktcpartno=KTH-ZD8000B/2G&id=2
i mean did you buy from hp? i'm guessing you didn't. what is your product number? it will be the p/n on the bottom. also, i looked at another laptop from that series (i don't know if it's your's, since i don't know you model number) and they only sell 1GB modules, for a total of 2 GB. you model may be otherwise, but i think you computer cannot support that much memory.
I went to HP and put in my P/N and the link I previously provided is the exact computer page it takes me to: HP Pavilion dv6200 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
i went there, then i hit order parts, i entered HP Pavilion dv6200 CTO as your product number, it gave me this screen HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts - HP Printer Parts - Compaq Parts . without your detailed model number, i can't find your laptop, but i dont think it matters. None of the models listed offer 4GB of ram. all offer 2GB sets, 1GB per module. I think your Laptop's motherboad cannot support the 4GB of ram, only 3. You can try contacting HP and asking them. if i'm right there's not much you can do. if i'm wrong they should be able to lead you in the right direction.
