Ive never seen one pop up on ebay before. I bet it will go for a killing. Id love to bit but I know the price will go too high. Its one to overclock to death Maybe it already has been though, its sold as untested. eBay.co.uk: Intel Pentium 4, Socket 478, 3.4GHz, Engineering sample (item 180064936707 end time 19-Dec-06 20:08:17 GMT)
This looks awsom but my guess is, as yours, that it will rocket. One thing I do not understand - If the thermal plate (IHS) has been removed, how can you fit a heatsink? won't it squash the processor? Anyway, according to the guy this is not a one off but a part of a lot which he has. Back of a lorry??????
You can get little foam pads which you put on the rest of the cpu to hold the heatsink steady. athlon xp - Google Image Search If you used a standard p4 heatsink I dont think it would clamp on tight enough, you'd need a different HSF mount on the motherboard. Loads of cpus dont have an IHS, the latest one ive got is an AthlonXP2000, my celly 633 was the same.
It went for £72... pretty well normal for a 3.4ghz P4, though the untested thing should be a worry, the thing must have been hammered!
