AMD considers buying Ageia | News | Custom PC

Well there is talk at the very least, and as obvious problems such as AMD not being so cash rich rate now it would be a difficult buy. Reason behind them wanting to buy Ageia??? well Intel has bought out Havok consequently Ageia's market cost has soared as they are a target of quite a few buyers, which obviously posses an issue for AMD.

Probably won't go through with it, their stock can't afford to take another hit with an acquisition.

If hardware physics were worthwhile, this would be a great move. However, Ageia's PhysX is currently a yawner. Ooh, flying particles...oooh, there's goes your framerate. Let's also not forget that very few games even support the PhysX.

Physics have their place, but Ageia's one trick pony just doesn't justify the cost. AMD would be foolish to acquire Ageia, especially now, but even if they were at a place where they were giving Intel a run for the money, it would still be a waste of money.

I'd buy the KillerNIC before I'd buy a PhysX card, at least as it stands right now.
