I have was going to get a Athlon XP 3000 with a Geforce FX5200, but after some advice I have decided to upgrade my original order to the following: Athlon 64 3000+ Processor Geforce FX5700 512Mb DDR400 Memory ASUS K8V SE DELUXE MOTHERBOARD 80Gb 7200RPM Hard Drive DVD Drive 52 speed CDROM, 52x CD write Midi Tower ATX[/B] Is this a good spec to start gaming, etc?
All good except for the 5700gfx, if you are into extreme game - Doom 3, Far Cry etc. For roughly the same price (Sterling, anyway) you can pick up a 9800PRO card, which is a lot better. You will probably be dissapointed with your games with the 5700. I'll post some benchmarks results.
Ok for Call of Duty, the 5700 got rougly 79FPS at 1024x768, on a system slightly lower than yours - 2.8 Athlon. The 9800PRO got around 129FPS. Big difference. Go here for more comparisons. http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/vga-charts-05.html
good advice by Intemptesta Nox! the 9800 Pro would be a better choice! also how much are you wanting to spend on the system?
