Ok so I am on a budget of around $800 USD and here are the parts I selected Processor AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2000MHz HT Socket 939 Processor - Retail at Newegg.com VideoCard Leadtek Geforce 7900GT PX7900GT Video Card - Retail at Newegg.com HardDrive Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM at Newegg.com Mobo ASUS A8N-E ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com Case ( w/ psu and fan) Rosewill R604TSB-N Black/Silver Computer Case - Retail at Newegg.com Memory OCZ S.O.E 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail at Newegg.com Ok and what I want to know is -Is this a good build -Is it vista capabl -Would it be able to play WoW and -are there any compatability problems If you could answer these questions I woud be very happy :EDIT: Oh ya and I need to find a cd drive thingy
He dude, great pickings right there, it's crazy to think what you can get for $800 these days. I've personally go with this guy for you're optical drive: LITE-ON 16X DVD±R DVD Burner W/ LightScribe and 5X DVD-RAM Write Black ATAPI/E-IDE Model SHM-165H6S - OEM at Newegg.com And since AM2 is now AMD's new socket standard you might want to go with the latest and greatest (despite how sweet a deal the 3700+ is). The mobo: ASUS M2V ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com The processor AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2000MHz HT Socket AM2 Processor - Retail at Newegg.com Because AM2 uses DDR2 800 as a standard you'll have to go with that if you decide to jump on the AM2 bandwaggon. Either this: pqi TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail at Newegg.com or this: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail at Newegg.com Are my top picks.
i wudnt reccomend the m2v mobo. deeply becoz it is just an am2 low bidget board with hardly any features. its ok for now becoz he's on a budget but in some time, if he want to get more descent components, then he wud want a descent mobo. he wudnt want to fork out more money for another mobo so its better to get one now. get the m2n-e mobo which is only about $12 more which is mothing reaLLY. ASUS M2N-E ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com it has got overclocking features and heatpipe for northbridge cooling etc. get the 3800+ its only $6 more. i ud got with exfoliates system with this mobo
It's not a huge difference but the 200MHz faster processor and DDR2 memory will definately make a difference. But more importantly it's entirely up to date so you'll have long spanning upgrade potential.
Dont forget to also get a good PSU for it. Dont settle for the stock one. Read BigB's PSU sticky for reference.
Ok so is this good Cd Drive LITE-ON 16X DVD±R DVD Burner W/ LightScribe and 5X DVD-RAM Write Black ATAPI/E-IDE Model SHM-165H6S - OEM at Newegg.com Memory pqi TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail at Newegg.com Video Card Leadtek Geforce 7900GT PX7900GT Video Card - Retail at Newegg.com Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM at Newegg.com Case Rosewill R604TSB-N Black/Silver Computer Case - Retail at Newegg.com Mobo ASUS M2N-E ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2000MHz HT Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor - Retail at Newegg.com
Great system there mate, but one thing, you should never stick with the case's stock PSU with a high end system like that. Im sure if Big B reads this he will point you out to a few, but don't forget to read his sticky. Big B's PSU sticky
Ok I found a good deal Rosewill R6AS5-BK Black Computer Case - Retail at Newegg.com Then go under combo deals then its the 2nd one :EDIT: Ok and Im going to buy the parts but Ill need a different video card near the same quality and price because the one I selected is out of stock
Rosewell isn't terrible nor is a regarded as a top player in the powersupply front, never skimp in the department as it could cost you your system. Chances are you'd be okay with that powersupply but the extra insurance that an: Thermaltake W0101RU 550W Power Supply - Retail at Newegg.com affords you is worth it concidering the price is similar. It's up to you, the Rosewill's got good reviews too.
Ok I will use that power supply but I still need a video card that can play WoW and I dont need a top of the line thing either just somthing that can play it on medium
This 6800GT from Newegg will run WoW fine, on medium maybe even full. Open Box: Leadtek Geforce 6800GT PX6800-GTTDH Video Card - OEM at Newegg.com $169 USD. You really need to give us your remaining budget for a graphics card.
That Thermaltake unit is alright, but you can do a lot better for that money. Antec TruePower TPII-550=best bang for the buck. It has stronger 12V rails over the Thermaltake, and given that it's a few bucks more
Yeah Thermaltake has never had stong rails but all their units pretty much seem to get excellent reviews for one reason or another. But B knows his stuff, I could see going with Antec too if you can afford it. I'd go with the 6800GS as it's a bit faster but costs nearly the same. BIOSTAR Geforce 6800GS V6803GS52 Video Card - Retail at Newegg.com Or a potentially faster 7600GT eVGA Geforce 7600GT KO 256-P2-N554-AX Video Card - Retail at Newegg.com It's never good to go with an OEM open box product like that 6800GT. It's a good card but with OEM's you get a crap 15 day warrenty and nothing but the card.
well wat b suggested is a fine unit. u cue also consider enermax 535watt or antec neo he 500watt but the neo may be a bit expensive. so it lyes on the antec truepower/control or the enermax
Ok so Here are my specs now Cd Drive LITE-ON 16X DVD±R DVD Burner W/ LightScribe and 5X DVD-RAM Write Black ATAPI/E-IDE Model SHM-165H6S - OEM at Newegg.com Memory pqi TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail at Newegg.com Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM at Newegg.com Mobo ASUS M2N-E ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2000MHz HT Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor - Retail at Newegg.com Case Rosewill R6AS5-BK Black Computer Case - Retail at Newegg.com Psu Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 550W Power Supply - Retail at Newegg.com And Graphics card Open Box: Leadtek Geforce 6800GT PX6800-GTTDH Video Card - OEM at Newegg.com and its only like 30 more bucks then my original price so is this good? Im getting xp home for it because I want to get the cheapest thing so I can get vista next year
no wthat luks much better. ive got the m2n-e mobo today. all fitted in and it has got so many overclocking features and voltage adjustments etc. its sik
I think everythings great but you'd still be better served by a 7600GT, it's no loss concidering the price is within a few bucks of the 6800GT and the 7600GT is retail so you get extra's and a full warrenty not just the 15 day deal with the 6800GT.
