Can HTML open a program on your system?

Im trying to make a webpage (which will sit on a PC, not on the net) which has step by step instructions for various tasks.... virus and spyware removal, stuff like that.

I want to have a line saying

But what code should I use for the "Here" hyperlink?
I tried using file:/// but I dont get the usual "open with" or "save here" option.
The "open with" probably wouldnt work anyway but I at least had to try it!

    Many Thanks

No, this would be a rather large security risk... speaking of security risks, you should be able to do this with activeX :x: (and since this only needs to work on windows machines...)

    Thanks Impotence.

Its a good point about the security risk! It didnt occur to me at the time. I'll have to give directions through the start menu.... I dont know bugger all about activex.

you could consider putting up a achieve (ie .rar or zip) of shortcuts that could be downloaded, nearly every install of spybot etc will be in the same place!
