    External Hard Drive
    Capacity: 300GB
    Manufacturer: Fantom Drives
    Connection Type: USB 2.0

    Hi,
I have a external 300GB Fantom Hard Drive about one year old. Last week when I tried to connect it with my PC, my computer didn't recgonzed the dirve.
It doesn't show any icon for the drive in "My Computer". However, when I checked in the "Device Manager", it showed the hard drive as connected.
I also checked the drive on a laptop. It detected the drive, installed the drive, but again, no icon in "My Computer".
When connected and turned ON, it now gives a beep sound for some time and then behaves normally, when the "Blue" led light (Contrary to the "red" one which means that there is a problem with the connection.

Anybody have any ideas, what is wrong with the drive.

    Thank you for the help

    regards
    Mack

    have you tried this?

start -> right click my computer -> manage -> disk management.
see if your drive is there and if it is, format it and it should appear on my computer.

I may be rushing to conclusions, but have you considered a faulty enclosure?

The warranty for the drive is over, hence there are no problems with opening the enclosure, however, i am trying to keep it as the last option. (this thursday is the deadline)
