It is, thats why he said you don't have it. It just sounds like a Sasser symptom. But uhhhh, this is just a shot in the dark but what distro/version of Linux are you using?

Sasser is a Windows virus... there are no known virii in the wild for Linux. Even if there was, infection would not be automatic; you'd have to infect yourself. You've been using Windows too long, man. :p

As for the problem, since it's about the same interval of time between freeze-ups I'd say Linux was trying to utilize ACPI power-saving features of the laptop which were not properly implemented by the manufacturer. I bet that if you disable ACPI the lockups will disapear. Also, make sure power saving features are disabled in the BIOS as well. If that does indeed fix the lockups, I'd suggest recompiling your kernel with only the ACPI functions that your laptop can support properly. That way you get the best of both worlds.

    All the best,
    -AT

Oh by the way, speaking of power managment, could it possibly be somthing to do with the psu?

It could be, but I doubt it because of the consistency of your freezeups.

It can be installed also. Even so, why would it die after 5 minutes every time?
