ok, i discovered grub 2 had replaced grub 1.5 on my system when i'd installed Debian Lenny b2 when i issued the command "kdesu kate /boot/grub/menu.lst" to start with i assumed i'd made a typo when a blank kate appeared so, i pressed the up arrow key to repeat previouly typed commands, the above line appeared and i was  because the command was correct, at least i thought so, however, when i opened konqueror i found that menu.lst doesn't exist & there are about 78 .mod files (Amiga audio files) & a few other files, so, i went for a cig & a think (i do my best thinking if i have a cig)

anyway, i thought they had probably brought a new version of grub out

that was indeed correct, currently grub2 is still in beta & doesn't yet natively support NTFS although grub2 can apparently be changed / spot welded to use NTFS

all i all grub2 looks good with different choose able fonts, backgrounds, font sizes, resolution & stuff

    BTW: i can't find a release date for grub2

Edit: i still don't know what the .mod sound files are for, time to discover what they are for
