Hi. I'm trying to clone a 2.5 inch disk. The problem is that the disk is not recognised by any of the tools I am trying to use. It is seen in the BIOS, but does not show up in gparted for instance. I have tried it in Windows and Debian linux.

On boot up there is a blizzard of error messages for ata1. It has been suggested that I disable DMA, as this may be making it impossible to read the disk. I have tried adding libata.dma=0 to the kernel boot line but this does not improve the situation. I am trying to find a way of reading the disk so I can clone it.

You cannot clone Any HD with errors on it, And Why would you want two of the same with errors..I assume this is a laptop hd...Have you ram scan disk to fix the errors?
