    I have 2 harddisks & 2 cd/dvd drives,i am having mercury pi845gvm-agp motherboard.i have installed xp & ububtu ,bt very frequently errrors are happening.how should i set jumpers? which should i set as primary master,primary slave, & secondary master & secondary slave.? pls reply

    as you've neglected to specify weather the mobo has PATA or SATA & PATA I can only assume this is the spec of the mobo, in which case the mobo has 2 PATA ports (IDE) supporting 2 devices each and as uDMa 100/66 you will only be able to use a maximum burst rate of 100kb/s, anyway to answer your question: some people think it makes a difference, whereas in reality it only mattered years ago personally i always set the primary master is always the bootable HDD, on my systems:
    HDD's = master
    CD/DVD = slave
