I am looking for help in thinking up hardware problems for students to fix. They need to be easily reset for different students, but still fairly challenging to solve. I would prefer suggestions that have to do with the BIOS, such as setting the RAM voltage to low, and things of that type. Nothing that will hurt the hardware, obviously. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

BIOS isn't bad, but don't forget UEFI that's replacing it.
Something that might drive them batty is having the hard drive controller set to ACHI with an OS drive that isn't. You get a non-bootable drive that might prompt some to think an OS reinstall is needed. I know this works under Windows, but haven't done it with anything else.
Unplug a data cable for drives or the +12V connector on the motherboard.
