I am attempting to install a 56k internal modem into an old pentium one machine. After inserting the modem into a spare pci slot I cannot getthe machine to see the modem at all. I have tried different slots with no success. Any clues? Running windows 98 first edition.

    Cheers,

    Troy.

Have you tried another 56k modem in the same machine?
One thing that may be a barrier is the PCI specification on the motherboard being older than the one on the modem. If this is the case, there is nothing you can do, unless there happens to be a jumper to switch between PCI specifications on the modem itself.
