    Hi friends,

I'm trying to repair XP in a computer with XP Pro SP 2 on it. I don't have the cd they used to install it for first time, so I'm using one I have. I'm stuck in the KEY screen since it doesn't want to take my key.
I think it needs the same key for the previous installation....

Is there any workaround for this?

    Thanks.

if you have a working backup, you can extract the old CD Key from the registry, or retreive it by importing the below listed registry branch into your new system from an old registry backup

the CD Key is located in the registry at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion it is listed as ProductID

    Sorry guys,

For some reason I wasn't notified of your answers. I thought I was subscribed to my own thread :s
Well, the problem was exactly that!!!..I screw it and I didn't save the key before starting to repair...so I was stuck in the Key screen and unable to go into windows.
I already solved it, I did a system restore and fortunately it did a repair without messing up the registry and the program files, so everything worked after that.

    Thanks both.
