I have to say I like RahXephon more than NGE. It seems like part of NGE is to have the main characters screwed up in one way or another. Shinji is a wuss, and the Japanese voice is done by a female---although it does fit. He has utterly no self-esteem and seems to be more socially inept than just about everyone, save maybe Rei. On the other hand, you have Ayato, who seems to be more realistic. Yeah, he's skeptical, but he's at least able to think for himself, and if he were a real person, you'd probably want to hang out with him. Now, I'm not going to claim RahXephon doesn't have some real screwy parts to it, but at least the people...well, seem more like people and not like a group of mental cases.
