I am looking at buying a laptop for school. I saw this one in a flyer:

    BRAND: Toshiba

PROCESSOR: Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo T5600

DISPLAY: 15.4" WXGA (1,280x800) TruBrite LCD

    MEMORY: 2GB DDR-2 SD RAM

HARD DRIVE: 160 GB SATA hard drive (5,400 RPM)

    CD/DVD DRIVE: Super Multi double-layer DVD+/-RW

    CONNECTIVITY: Wireless 802.11 A/B/G connectivity

GRAPHICS: Nvidia GeForce 7600 Graphics (128 MB)

MISC: 5-in-1 memory card reader, Windows Vista capable

It is in the staples flyer for $1499 CDN, $200 off.

I dont really need it until next september, so is it worth getting or is there going to be something else in the near future that will be a boost in performance for roughly the same price. I think it is pretty good, what do you think?

configurations seems very good with current latest processor. Just check the battery life......
If u dont need it then dnt buy it coz by the time next september come, the price of this laptop will fall down.. Technology is growing very fast. AMD will also launch their new processors by next year. So wait till next year and make decision just couple of weeks before next september for better price/configurations laptop.....

It looks like a very good system, plenty of power but again I'd check the battery life. It shouldn't be a problem though.

Decide whether you want a powerful laptop, or a light long lasting one.

Yeah, that looks pretty good. I have heard some major complaints about Toshiba's support, so you may want to check into that before settling on a laptop. The specs are very good.

Yeah, I would. I'm not sure if HP has anything similar, but they'd be my first pick. Look around, though, since there's various options. I've heard good things about ABS, but, again, read some reviews and research the customer support.

Oh wait one more quick question. Is there any way to know what core I am going to be getting? I have read that the Conroe core is very good. Are all of the cores about the same?

Conroe is the Core 2 Duo on the desktop. Core 2 Duo mobile CPU's are the Merom core. It's basically the same thing, but tweaked for mobile applications to save power and uses a different socket (Socket M vs LGA775 aka Socket T)

I would check the Acer laptops. My friend got one in the US for $1,000
    Specs:
    Core Duo T2300 (1.66GHz x 2)
    2GB RAM DDR2-533
    ATi Mobility X1400
    120GB SATA

Not sure what the prices would be like in Canada, but $1,000 is very cheap for that.
