I don't have any article to link to, or any sources i can quote but for the last 4 hours i have been unable to reach wikileaks (on any of there domains, even though most of them point to the same server) or any of there mirrors. wikileaks is hosted by prq, who also host the pirate bay. It appears PRQ have null routed wikileaks until the ddos subsides. I have been talking with other IRC users in #wikileaks on freenode, wikileaks had apparently released a few thousand pages of documents relating to the 'chuch' of Scientology (as they said they would a week earlier in response to a copyright claim made by the 'church' on documents previously leaked) and most people seem convinced that this is the reason for the attack. whatever there motives may be, i doubt they will be successful, previous attempts to censor wikileaks have only spread the news further. [OT] A torrent of the leaked documents has appeared on the pirate bay and one of the IRC users i was talking too was downloading it with the intention to seed on a 10GBit connection told me that shortly after he started downloading he came under a ddos himself consuming 1.4GBit/s of bandwidth Hopefully we will have more detail as to what has happened within a few hours, i will make a point of editing this post if i have made any errors / false assumptions [/OT]
I've never heard of Wikileaks until your post; but it sounds like (potentially) a great site. I'm still thinking about whether this expedited engine for leaking sensitive material is a good or possibly bad thing, but seems good on the whole.
