The sky is the limit for a Playstation 3 running Yellow Dog Linux, a feature packed operating system designed exclusively for the Playstation 3. You will be able to edit photos, chat on AIM and MIRC, share files between your PC and PS3, and much more! Yellow Dog is completely open source, which means the source code is available to the community, so you can enhance and change any applications you desire.

You can find a complete list of applications included with Yellow Dog at Terra Soft -- Linux for PS3, IBM Power, Mercury Cell, and Apple PowerPC.. Some notable programs that come packed with YDL are the FireFox browser and a Microsoft Office alternative, OpenOffice.

The install guide can be found at http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/support/installation/ydl5.0_guide.pdf.
    The guide mentions that:

Yellow Dog Linux for PS3 combines a simple to use graphical installer with leading-edge components and a foundation of must-have home, office, and server applications. Everything you need to browse the web, check and compose email, do your school homework or take your office work home is included with more than 2000 packages on the Install DVD.

Yellow Dog Linux is set to launch Monday, November 27, with a free worldwide release scheduled for Christmas Day.

As far as I've seen it's just for IBM processors like the cell and PowerPC chips.

PowerPC isn't an uncommon architecture, you know Ubuntu and other distros have PowerPC versions.
