Post Ubuntu and XP

This is probably a stupid question but I just installed the newest version of Ubuntu and I cant figure out how to access it from my XP desktop I downloaded putty but it keeps giving me an error message saying Network Failure connection failed. Is their any special way or doing this? I have personally never used putty.

My Computer

Is the OpenSSH server running on your Ubuntu client? If it's not installed, you'll have to do so through your package manager. It's usually called 'openssh-server' in Debian-like distros.
