Unable to change desktop background [windows XP]
hey all,
A friends computer has got me stumped, i can change the colour of the background but i cant select any image to be used as a background (the entire box is grayed out [and the browse button & center/tile/stretch selection box)!). any suggestions? Thanks is advanced

This looks like some kind of virus infection. I'd suggest to do a virus scan (Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan or a different online scanner). If that doesn't solve it, use Registry Mechanic to do a registry scan.

Guessing that this is XP, Can you go into C: /Windows/Web/Wallpaper/ right click and set as wallpaper ..

I don't know if that will work (above) but it gives me a few more things to try that i hadn't tried.

I'm playing Counter strike source and unreal 2004 on my machine  and Postal 2... and i belive all the quakes also work in linux [native versions, not with wine/cedega]

go to Properties > Desktop > Customise Desktop > Under tab Web, if anything is clicked then unclick it and set your wallpaper after that..
