Default Unable to "ENABLE" CD/DVD IN Bios

Hi I have an EasyNote Packard Bell Laptop 512 RAM 40 Gig Hard Drive. Just recently my CD/DVD stopped working for some strange reason. When I inputted any CD in the drive the light was still coming on but nothing getting picked up.

I then went on BIOS pressing F2. Here I noticed that the CD/DVD had been “Disaled”. What caused this to happen I don’t have a clue.

I tried to search for an option for me to “enable” this but was unable to do so.

My BOIS read the following. INSYDE SOFTWARE SCU. Then have 4 option

Start Up / Chipset / Boot / Exit. Even though I try to click on to any option there is no way to Enable this.

The other option I have is F8, But this is the option from “Boot from CD”.

Please help.

Your optical drive may actually be going bad. But I'd hate to make a guarantee. Most BIOS's have a "Load defaults" option. If yours does, load the defaults and save. Unless someone went in and disabled the optical drive, it would not do that by itself. Is the drive even recognized by Windows?

Hi,

If you have a spare cable for the optical drive, you may want to try swapping that out in case its just a bad cable. Also, if there is another IDE or sata slot on your motherboard (depending on what kind of drive you have), you may want to try one of those as well.
